PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Residency
The Reason for Residency
The transition from college to the workforce brings a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Tarrytown residents will get the unique opportunity to hone their community pharmacy skills, while also receiving an exclusive look into what it takes to run a progressive independent pharmacy. We believe each resident will gain invaluable knowledge, skills, and guidance to further their career.
The Tarrytown Residency
- Provides residents an excellent, year-long, learning environment to enrich their pharmacy practice skills, in a progressive, quick-moving, and rewarding pharmacy culture
- Maintains a rewarding partnership with a top-tier University and College of Pharmacy (The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy)
- Offers a multitude of opportunities for experience in academia and managerial settings
- Is located in scenic Central Austin. Austin has been named one of the best places in the country to live because of our outdoor activities, music venues, State Capitol, The University of Texas, SXSW, the ACL Music Festival, food culture and so much more
Business Management and Finance
Residents will get an inside look at what it takes to run a successful pharmacy, and will begin to understand what makes a pharmacy financially successful. This includes profit reports, P&L statements, and A/R.
Pharmacy Management and Service
Preparing residents for a successful start as a community pharmacist, is at the heart of the program. Residents will learn pharmacy workflow, team management, pharmacist practice skills, and superb patient service.
An on-site compounding lab provides residents the ability to practice and be comfortable with this niche and progressive area of pharmacy.
Residents can elect to get real-world experience in this rapidly growing portion of health care expenditures, at Tarrytown Pharmacy’s Specialty Pharmacy.
Tarrytown has a robust immunization and travel program, which includes a large range of vaccines from flu to yellow-fever. Mobile flu shot clinics are also provided locally.
The ability to screen patients for basic to serious healthcare issues, is an added level of accessibility that the pharmacy profession provides. Residents will learn and provide these tests to offer to the community.
Medication Therapy Management
All preceptors and residents participate in the MTM program and provide MTM services on a regular basis.
Education and Academia
Residents will learn how to be educators in both clinical and academic environments by facilitating labs, presenting lectures, precepting students, and attending the Academic Training Program, at the UT College of Pharmacy.
All residents must complete a project that is meaningful to the resident and the profession, which will conclude within the year timeframe.
